The Journals of Gilbert White (3 vols) by Gilbert White; Francesca Greenoak (ed); Richard Mabey (general ed) - 1986/1988/1989

Century, London, 1986. Illustrated by Clare Roberts. The boards of each vol have slight wear to top and bottom edges of spine and very slight bumping at the corners. The paper label of vol 1 is detached and is included, in perfect condition. There is some spotting to the tops of the text blocks of each vol and (very faintly) to the righthand edges of the text blocks of vols 2 and 3. Internally, each vol is crisp and clean and tightly bound. The paper covers are generally in VG condition. Vol 1 has some discolouration down the righthand side and along the top edge of the front cover, and down the crease between back cover and flap; there is very modest creasing along the top of the front; there is a short tear (approx 0.5 cm) with slight loss at the top edge where the back cover meets the spine panel and a further small tear towards the foot of the same edge (again around 0.5 cm and with slight loss); there is a small chip missing at the top right of the front cover, at the flap crease. Vol 2 has very slight discoloration down the flap creases and very minor edgewear to both ends of spine; there are three very small tears – on the bottom edge of the spine panel, on the top edge of the rear panel, and near the top right of the rear flap. All are very minor with no loss. Vol 3 has very slight discoloration down the flap creases and across the top edge of the front and back panels and minor edgewear to the spine edges; there is a small tear to the rear bottom edge, that has been discretely repaired; there is very minor wear to the top and bottom corners where the front panel meets the front flap.
