Albany (NY). July 1835 first edition. From the steam press of Packard & Van Benthuysen. Very first issue of this very rare journal. 16p. 4to. stringbound wraps. Rectangular logo of Zodiac ring around the earth. Issue begins with statement of journal's purpose: "Every month will bring with it some novelty of science or art, some lesson of virtue or experience. Under each sign (of the Zodiac) , we shall be found gathering the choicest andmost useful productions of genius and wisdom". Articles on "The Power of the Press", Metternich, the Art of Navigation, some original poetry "never before published": "India" by James Gray (c. 1770-1830) who died in Bhooj, India. Fairly Good, worn, toned, frayed on edges and some short closed tears in margins only. Complete; no tears in text. Folded in half. Very Rare. .
