Vladimir Tambi (1906-1955) was born, lived and worked in St. Petersburg - Petrograd - Leningrad. He studied at the workshop of workers-artists of the Proletkult (1920), at the Academy of Arts -VKhUTEMAS (1921-1924). He worked in the experimental lithographic workshop of LOSKHA (1930s), in Detgiz under the direction of V.V. Lebedev, in the "Fighting Pencil" (1941), in 1944-1946 he was the art editor of the State Publishing House of the Estonian SSR. Draftsman, lithographer, book artist. Masterfully painted machinery and all kinds of cars. He collaborated with thirty magazines, illustrated both fiction (about travel and geographical discoveries) and popular science literature (about airplanes, ships, cars) - about one hundred and fifty publications in total. He created several dozen "author" books, represented the Leningrad School of Graphics. Participant of exhibitions since 1924. He belonged to the number of avant-garde artists who did not join art groups and associations. The works are stored in the SRM (The State Russian Museum), STG (The State Tretyakov Gallery), and other collections.

A reissue of the book series "Living Machines", released in 2017. Cardboard box, it contains 6 books in thin covers on paper clips, on a dense tinted offset of the original type (stylization for the same books of the 20-30s) + publishing covers made of very dense chalk have been added. The format of publishing covers is slightly larger than the "original" books. Wonderful design - both the box itself and these additional covers!
