About This Item
New York, NY: Hill & Wang, 1974. First Edition, 6th Printing . Paperback. Very Good/None as Issued. Text/BRAND NEW. Yellow soft cover/VG; w/light shelf wear & soiling to lower back ege. Classic study of semiology (science of signs and symbols) in Sarrasine, a novella by Balzac Honore (1799 - 1850). Barthes calls his study an essay, and says it is "the trace of work done during a two-year seminar (1968 - 1969) at the Ecole pratiques de Hautes Etudes." Through scrutiny of 561 fragments (or lexias) we are introduced to the very nature of reading, which is principally something we do by ourselves.
