Jacket complete but has been repaired (from the back) with cello tape, shows edgewear. The author's portrayal of young people in 1920s China. An appropriate title these days.

Hardcover in black cloth lettered in red. Striking red silhoutte endpapers deisgned by Ayer. 182 pp. Buck's third novel, following "The Good Earth" for which she won the 1932 Pulitzer. "The Young Revolutionist" was first utilized by the Missionary Education Movement that issued a six-session study guide ("Youth and Revoluiton In China") based on Buck's book. The book, in noveliztion form, describes the lives of youths in 1920s China. During her lifetime, she never included this book in her bibiographies and thus it remains unnoted in most lists of her books.

FIRST UK EDITION PRIVATE LIBRARY BOOKPLATE: This copy has the Bill Powell bookplate. He and his father, John B.. Powell were the editors of the Shanghai-based periodical: "The China Weekly Review." Bill Powell was later tried for sedition upon his return to the U.S. for publishing allegations of U.S. germ warfare during the Korean War. * .

Decorative red and white EPs by Ayer.This copy is NEAR FINE in a VG, unclipped ( price of $1.50 on both flaps) also designed by Ayer. Exterior is rich, lettering is bright. Spine ends a bit crimped, but edges/tips are sharp. Inside is unmarked, crisp, and tight with modest toning. Red/yellow/ black pictorial DJ moderate chipping at spine ends, 1/2" closed tears at bottom and top front near spine, and a verso tape repaired 2" x2" section at bottom front. Uncommon with higher grade DJ..

First English edition, published in the same year as the American edition. 12mo. 187, [1] pp. Binding cocked, endleaves with a bit of tanning and foredge lightly spotted, very good in a heavily spine-toned, good only dust jacket with loss at the spine ends affecting the titling and several nicks and tears. The English edition is uncommon in jacket.

Additionaly inscribed "From my niece Dorris Pellet, Palma de Mallorica, Spain, October, 1932. W.L. Jepson" to the top of the front pastedown. Willis Linn Jepson (1867–1946) was a prominent American botanist. Jepson, as a founding member, played a significant role in the early formation of the Sierra Club. Fair book and Near Good dust jacket. Edgeworn with bumped corners, rubbed boards and mildew staining. The jacket and a few leaves also stained.
