Very exciting Historical Novel about two brave lads, Ralph & Percy Barclay having a French mother and English Father. B&W Frontispiece illustrated with young soldiers watching a bridge being blown up, protected by tissue guard. 7 more Full-page B&W Plates and 6 In-Text illustrations. Unfated Edition, Gift inscription on fly leaf dated 1886. No other inscriptions. Period Brown Half-Leather binding with 4 raised bands to spine. Gilt lettering, and decoration in compartments. Brown cloth-covered boards and leather corners. Endpapers and all page edges marbled (combed pattern), 376 p.pages, 7 1/2" Tall. . Spine colour slightly faded. Hinges sound & Binding firm. A few spots of foxing on tissue guard and faint spots on title page and bottom of fronts. Only a very occasional small spot elsewhere.
