Cheek, Fishing Rod and Tackle, Umbrella, Parasol, Walking Stick and Riding Whip Manufacturer." With descriptions of a variety of rods and their prices. Fine engravings and woodcuts. Two copper plate engravings of fish. Twenty-four woodcuts within the text showing each species of fish described. With sections on Fly-Fishing, Bottom-Fishing, Angling in Salt Water, and Trolling. A rare book in the first edition. There were four editions of the book, all published in 1839. The later editions are scarce, but the first edition is a rare book. No copies of the first found in WorldCat, not in the Bartlett catalogue, not in the Heckscher auction, not in the Sage auction, not in the auction of John Simpson’s angling books held by Bonhams, London, in 2005 (Mr. Simpson had nearly every U. K. fishing title), and not in Thacher’s Angling Books. The book is bound in the original green decorated cloth with gilt title on the front cover. The book is kept in a folding green cloth chemise, and housed in a green morocco and green cloth slip case with gilt titles. Light wear to the binding, the front hinge is strong but it is showing some of the cloth. A very good book in a fine chemise and slip case. . First Edition..
