In very good condition - has markings from use - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout.Plants can be flamboyant and voluptuous, funny and frivolous, even shy and retiring, but do they really have personalities? They most certainly do, according to plantswoman Carol Klein, who has been growing, propagating and showing plants for more than thirty years. In Plant Personalities, she demonstrates how understanding their needs and giving them the best conditions in which to thrive enables plants to develop their true characters - the qualities that make them what they are - or who they are.Personality traits are as valueable as height, habit and flower colour when choosing which plants to grow and how to grow them. Good-natured, bread-and-butter plants contribute to the overall picture for months, while others are fleeting, shooting to stardom for a brief but breathtaking performance. Wafty whisperers add a touch of frivolity, bringing rustling rhythms to beds and borders.…

Description:
In very good condition - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout.Andrew Barton 'Banjo' Patterson, the author of such famous ballads as Clancy of the Overflow and The Man from Snowy River, has become a symbol of the outback for most Australians. His poems capture the spirit of the bush people; they celebrate the vast distances and the harsh and beautiful places of outback Australia. This book, the second in a series of Australian poems illustrated by Australian artists, contains a selection of the most well-known and best-loved of Paterson's poems including those favourites mentioned above, Waltzing Matilda, Saltbush Bill, and A Bush Christening. Pro Hart's paintings reflect the moods of the poems and add to the charm of the book. This is a book which will delight the already countless number of Paterson admirers and will doubtless bring many newcomers to their ranks.

Description:
In very good condition, has markings from use - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout.'In any part of Australia, almost in any company, the mere mention of Henry Lawson's name will bring an immediate response. Whether it gives rise to an anecdote or a recitation of a few lines of his verse or leads to a discussion of his place in Australian literature it will not pass unnoticed. Alone among our writers he takes his place not only as a writer but as part of the wide Australian tradition.'In the opening words to his introduction to this book, Walter Stone sums up Lawson's part in Australia's heritage. The poems selected for the book have been enjoyed by more than seven generations, from the famous 'Faces in the Street', which exposed the social injustices of the late 1800's, to 'The Sliprails and the Spur', described as possibly 'the tenderest and most perfect of all his poems'. Combined with Pro Hart's paintings, which capture the humour of some of the poems, the pathos…

Description:
In very good condition - has markings from use - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout.AUSTRALIAN PUBS is the result of a "25,000-mile pub crawl" embarked upon by Melbourne columnist John Larkins and photographer Bruce Howard. Their journey began one warm Sunday afternoon at Silverton, near Broken Hill, and ended twelve months and many hangovers later at the new Wrest Point Casino in Hobart under the shadow of snow-capped Mount Wellington. They drank in all kinds of pubs, from the little tin shanty in the outback, where the tumbleweed bounces past the ever-open door, to the dim cocktail bar in the city where lovers whisper. They found one pub built from bricks made by ants; another so violent that the licensee lives behind a barbed wire fence and hardly dares enter the bar without his German Shepherd dog; and yet another which is so lavish that it has Sidney Nolan originals in the foyer, a mirror from Mussolini's palace, enough caviar on hand to feed a Cossack regiment,…
