About This Item

New York: Dodd, Mead & Co., 1947. Book Club. . Hardcover. Very Good/Good Plus to Very Good. A Dodd, Mead Prize novel by a writer perhaps under-appreciated today because, even after she became recognized as an author, stayed home in Texas and kept her job as a teacher. "The Years of the Locust" is the story of Dade Kenzie, the Kenzie family patriarch, and how his life, lived large in rural Missouri, affected other family members and friends. Book club edition, early printing. 234 pages in maroon cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on spine and prize winner logo stamped on front cover, 5 3/4 x 8 3/8 inches. Original owner's bookplate pasted on dedication page, with most recent owner's signature and date on fep, o/w text and boards are clean and complete, binding tight and square. The dustjacket shows a triangular chip missing from top edge of front panel, damaging only "10,000" in "A $10,000 Prize Novel." O/w minor surface wear and chipping at corners and spine ends, still 95% whole. A very decent reading copy.
