Uneven foxing and browning, esp at upper spine end and along joints. Trace edgewear and lightly bumped spine ends. Jacket in archival plastic protector is heavily edgeworn, chipped/torn and creased; moderate soil and rubbing; ~1 3/4" square chip to upper spine panel; narrow 1 1/4" hole to rear panel; $2.50 publisher's price to unclipped front flap. Shallow light silverfish nibbling to upper text block edge. Binding sound aside from crack to front hinge; text clean. Interior lightly toned with scattered minor foxing. B/w illustrations. No ownership marks, stickers or stamps. Not ex-library. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 428 pages .

Synopsis

The Yearling is a 1938 novel written by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. It won the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel in 1939. Rawlings's editor was Maxwell Perkins, who also worked with F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and other literary luminaries. She had submitted several projects to Perkins for his review, and he rejected them all. He instructed her to write about what she knew from her own life, and the result of her taking his advice was The Yearling.
