Green cloth with a small black pictorial and black lettering on the front panel; lettered in black on the spine; blue endpapers. The dustjacket, the title page and the copyright page all attribute this to Reginald Saunders; but the spine of the book itself gives the publisher as Scribners and the Scribner crest is on the title page. Some chipping along the edges and at the head and foot of the spine of the dustjacket; previous owner's name on the front free endpaper. Illustrated with drawings by Edward Shenton. Ms Rawlings was an American author who won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1939 for The Yearling. It was first filmed in 1946, directed by Clarence Brown and starring Gregory Peck, Jane Wyman, Claude Jarman Jr, Chill Wills, Forest Tucker and many others.
