1904 UK edition hardcover as pictured. Not a reprint. A classic journal and travelogue documenting a missionary's trip through China complete with the jingoism and racism typical of westerners with dreams of empire. Includes 100 full page illustrations/photographs and a fold out map. Binding is intact. Blue cloth boards with white and deep blue stamping are faded, soiled and worn with some fraying at head and tail of spine and at corners. Both hinges partially cracked. Writing and Australian missionary sticker on front endpapers. Front and rear endpapers and edge of text block mottled. Text is mottled but appears unmarked aside from a line drawn on the foldout map.
