The copy has incribed in a neat hand on the endpaper "Thiepol Ridge Memorial to the missing of the Somme. Dedicated to the officers & men of the British Army who fell on the Somme battlefields between 1915 & 1918 'but to whom the forthunes of war denied the known & honored burial given to their comrades in death.' Surrounding the inscription are 73,000 names, whose bodies on that battlefield had never been found or never been identified.
