Bangor: Cyhoeddedig yn y Llyyfrfa Wesleyaidd, 1871. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. A wonderful and very scarce collection of three monthly periodicals of this Welsh children's magazine, presented in a custom-made slipcase made by book collector Anthony David Estill. Very scarce, in a custom made cloth covered slipcase.Three volume set, containing Vol IV, VI, VIII of the 'New Series' from 1871.Illustrated with one full-page illustration to each of the volumes, as well as one page of sheet music.This is a lovely collection of monthly editions of the 'Y Winllan', children's magazine, also called 'The Vineyard'. This publication was a Welsh Wesleyan magazine for children, and appeared monthly from 1848 all the way until 1960. Vol IV includes stories such as 'Y peryglon o ddylyn cymdeithion drwg', 'Y Galon', and 'Gwlad Canaan'.Vol VI includes stories like 'Eilun-dduw Hindwaidd', 'Gweddi', and 'Ysmocio'. Vol VII includes stories like 'Cyfrif ein Dyddiau', 'Breuddwyn hynod', and 'Manion'. The first editor of 'Y Winllan' was Dr Thomas Johnes, before the magazine was turned over to John Evans (1840-1897) in the 1870s. Evans was a Welsh Christian minister who wrote a range of religious works and published translations of John Wesley's sermons.Written by a range of contributors includes Edward Tegla Davies and Kate Roberts.Cloth covered slipcase containing each paper issue was made by the prior owner, Anthony David Estill. Estill was a book collector who also made custom made book covers for a range of clients.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original paper wraps, in a custom made cloth slipcase. Externally, smart. Minimal edge wear with age-toning to the margins and a few spots. Slipcase is excellent with minimal bumping to the extremities. Prior owner's bookplate to front paste down of slipcase. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with age-toning to the text and scattered spots. Pages remain unopened to all volumes. Very Good
