N.Y.: Scribners, 1889. bound in original publisher's brownish cover with gilt lettering on the spine and a light yellow label on the cover with lettering in black. The ad, torn from a newspaper placed on the cover is missing. Worn along edges, rubbed, corners bumped. A hole and tear at front enpaper, with ink markings. a black comedy novel co-written by Robert Louis Stevenson and Lloyd Osbourne, first published in 1889. The story is about two brothers who are the last two surviving members of a tontine. The book was the first of three novels that Stevenson co-wrote with Osbourne, who was his stepson. It was made into a 1966 British comedy film produced and directed by Bryan Forbes from a screenplay by Larry Gelbart and Burt Shevelove. The cast includes a number of Britain's leading actors and comic actors of the time, including Sir John Mills, Sir Ralph Richardson, Sir Michael Caine, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Peter Sellers, Irene Handl, Nanette Newman, Wilfrid Lawson, and Tony Hancock.. 1st Edition.
