About This Item

This is a large collection of 57 issues of "THE WRITER" - A Monthly Magazine for Literary Workers. The issues date from June, 1923 to May, 1929. Published in Boston, MA. "The Writer" was established by two Boston Globe reporters and is one of the oldest continually published magazines in the U.S. Contents include Writers of the Day, Current Literary Topics, News and Notes, The Manuscript Market, Literary Articles in Periodicals, Book Reviews, advertisements, articles offering advice for writing, resources for publishing, and more. Many of the issues contain illustrations and facsimile documents.

Here are a few examples of the articles: Plagiarism?; Use Simple Words; The 100 Most Inspiring Words; Technical Writing; Writing for Boys; Mark Twain Manuscript to Be Held Two Centuries; Common Errors in Writing Corrected; Making Characters Seem Real; The Necessary Hyphen Again; The Income of Authors; Personal Gossip About Authors; What Editors Want; The Omniscient Proofreader; Radio-drama Writing; Thoreau's First Book; Long Novels or Short?; Meaningless Writing; Plot or Characters to Start; A Map to Help in Writing Fiction; A Tip for Rhymesters; Was Poe a Plagiarist?; Reform Needed in Novel and Magazine Fiction.

The following 57 issues are included:
1923 - June, July, September, October, November
1924 - February, March, April, August, September, October, November, December

Condition:
Overall the lot is in very good condition with general soiling to the covers and occasional foxing and stains/smudges. The upper-outer corner of pages 93-96 have torn away (the text is unaffected). The 1923 issues and a few of the 1924 & 1925 issues have small tears along the bottom edge. The back cover of August 1925 has a vertical half-way down from the top edge - a piece of tape has been applied over the tear at the top. Some of the issues have newspaper clippings which have left tanned outlines on the pages.
