This is a wartime reprint of extracts from two Churchill speeches delivered in the House of Commons on 4 May 1909 and at King's Theatre, Edinburgh, 17 July 1909. This pamphlet was first published as "The Menace of Land Monopoly" by the Henry George foundation in 1941. In 1942 the pamphlet was retitled and republished as "On Human Rights". The publisher's introductory note states: "In now publishing these extracts it is hoped that Mr. Churchill's eloquent and emphatic criticism of the present Land System will not be lost sight of in the post-war reconstruction for a New Social Order of which so much is being heard." The pamphlet measures 7.125 inches tall x 4.75 inches wide. It is sixteen pages in length with stapled cream colored card wraps. Title page reads "Anno Regni Georgii III. . . . At the Parliament begun and holden at Westminster, the Nineteenth Day of May, Anno Dom. 1761., in the First Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third . . . And from thence continued by several Prorogations to the Fifteenth Day of November, 1763, being the Third Session of the Twelfth Parliament of Great Britain." Woodcut royal coat of arms above the imprint. Woodcut historiated initial at the beginning of the act. In order to increase the supply of hemp and flax for the production of sail cloth and cordage, needed by the Royal Navy and the merchant marine, this act granted a bounty to those who brought those materials from the American colonies to England. In Fine Condition: clean and bright.

1780 softcover pamphlet in very good condition. Paginates: (iii)-viii, [2], (9)-101, blank, lacking the half-title (if it ever existed). Second edition. Pencil notes of prior book seller on title page, no other markings, creases or interior problems. Bound in quality laid paper wraps. A very nice copy. The paper is wonderful example of the paper making trade in 1780's London. Content is scathing satire and complaints about, among other things, the loss of the colonies. A nice copy. Sections are divided into Banners, Standards, Mottoes, and Rara Heraldica. There is also an Index of Names Included. Frontispiece is in color; the rest of the illustrations are in black and white.The green cloth binding has been professionally re-backed, with title in gilt lettering. The interior features marbled paper paste-downs. Aside from some very light smudge on first couple pages and a very little foxing, the text block is clean. Cover shows wear and rubbing along the edges. There are a few scratches and scuffs, along with fading near edges and spine. A couple spots along the edges are frayed. This is the first, limited, and hand-numbered edition of an essay presenting a previously unrecorded letter by T. E. Lawrence. In 2018, the subject letter, penned in 1925 entirely in T. E. Lawrence’s hand, was discovered laid into copy “50” of the 1935 British limited issue of Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Lawrence wrote this letter while posted to the Royal Air Force RAF Cadet College at Cranwell, where he completed the famous 1926 “Subscribers'” or “Cranwell” edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom. This letter consists of 22 lines written by Lawrence on the blank verso of an RAF “Application for Mechanical Transport.” Lawrence remains a remarkably enigmatic figure.
