The great iron clocks of the late thirteenth century may seem to be primitive in our eyes, but in fact they were, at the time far and away the most sophisticated pieces of machinery that had ever been made. The author gives us a run down of the history of time-keeping and then devotes a chapter each to the great periods of clock and watchmaking. The 370 illustrations of which 120 are in colour, include many photographs specially taken for this book and were taken to illustrate the progress of time-keeping. This is a NEAR FINE text copy of the 1st/1st with minimal cover wear reducing it to VG+.* Weight: 1.504 Kg.*
