The bindings are sound and clean. The spines have lost their title labels which were in a section at the top. The remainder of the spines have elaborate gilt decoration. The boards are marbled and there is wear to corners (with leather loss), spine ends and light rubbing to joints. Page edges marbled. Contents: Vol I: frontispiece, title, preface, plate and contents list viii; text 303 pp with 10 hand coloured plates. Original page marker present. Vol II: frontispiece; title; text 281 pp plus 15 hand coloured plates. The contents are overall in very good clean condition. The paper is lightly toned, particularly to margins and there is occasional light marking. There is occasional offsetting from the plates. In Vol I the initial blank has some tearing at the gutter; there is some loss from the bottom margin at p 85/6; and some text pages are cut shorter at the bottom. Vol II has a stain at the top corner tip of p 57/8; and remnants of the old page marker at p 130.

About E C Books
E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
