About This Item

Chicago, Illinois: Otto Naylor Corporation, Publishers, 1941. Octavo (23.5 x 15.5 cm.), 637, [3], xxxi pages. Second printing. This very large compendium of recipes gathered from around the world seeks to solve the problems of the modern housewife with the dishes and advice of professional hotel, restaurant, and even railroad chefs. "Dinners served to her husband's associates must compete successfully with the menus of the world's most noted hotels, restaurants, ocean liners and streamliners" (preface). The book is divided into three parts: the first offers "Chefs' Recipes Arranged by Courses of a Meal", the second, "International Recipes from Famous Chefs", and the third, "Homemakers' Recipes" (although Relishes appear earlier in the Courses section, they are indicated as having been supplied by homemakers). Most recipes are attributed to the chef or homemaker or at least to a restaurant or hotel. Fine, in gray-printed black oil-cloth. Black-printed white dust jacket has the faintest touch of age toning, otherwise fine. In the original cardboard shipping box.
