A set of ten volumes uniformly bound in full calf bindings, with gilt detailing to the spines. Top edges gilt. Life"s Little Ironies includes gilt detailing to the front board.A ten-volume Macmillan Pocket Edition collection of well-known novels by the English novelist and poet Thomas Hardy. A Victorian realist, Hardy was highly critical of much in Victorian society, especially on the declining status of rural people in Britain, such as those from his native South West England, with many of these volumes encountering those themes. All volumes are illustrated with a map of Wessex. Collated, complete. This set comprises:Life"s Little Ironies (Macmillan & Co.; 1925; 10th pocket edition)The Mayor of Casterbridge (Macmillan & Co.; 1926; 14th pocket edition)The Well-Beloved (Macmillan & Co.; 1927; 9th pocket edition)The Trumpet-Major (Macmillan & Co.; 1928; 12th pocket edition)Jude the Obscure (Macmillan & Co.; 1929; 17th pocket edition)A Pair of Blue Eyes (Macmillan & Co.; 1929; 14th pocket edition)The Return of the Native (Macmillan & Co.; 1929; 14th pocket edition)Two on a Tower (Macmillan & Co.; 1929; 12th pocket edition)A Group of Noble Dames (Macmillan & Co.; 1929; 10th pocket edition)Far From the Madding Crowd (Macmillan & Co.; 1930; 17th pocket edition) In full calf bindings. Externally generally smart, with light rubbing to the head and tail of the spines. Gilt remains bright. Rubbing to the spine of Life"s Little Ironies.
