New York, New York, U.S.A: Peter Fenelon Collier. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 5" X 7 3/4. FAIR / NO DUST JACKETS. [12 volume set] [No Date] Circa 1890, based on publisher's dates. Previous owner's name and date in Volume I, dated 1894. Includes: Far From the Madding Crowd; The Mayor of Casterbridge; The Trumpet Major; The Hand of Ethelberta; A Pair of Blue Eyes; Two On A Tower; A Laodicean, Or the Castle of DeStancys; The Return of the Native; Desperate Remedies; Under the Greenwood Tree; The Woodlanders; and Wessex Tales. Far From the Maddening Crowd is missing the frontispiece and the title page, all other volumes are complete. Texts unmarked except for previous owner's name and date at free front endpaper, minor soiling and foxing throughout. Dark green cloth boards decorated and lettered in gilt at spine. Boards scuffed and lightly soiled, spines darkened with age, all edges rubbed, corners bumped, spine tops and tails rubbed, volumes I, II and IV spine tops and tails starting to fray, Volume I with cupped boards. Bindings very tender, six of the volumes with a cracked hinge, all textblocks intact.
