First Baskerville edition, engraved portrait frontispiece after Kneller, 3 engraved plates after Hayman, woodcuts of medals, with the rare 'Directions to Binder' leaf usually lacking. 13 woodcuts of coins. DIBDEN noted, "He who hath the Baskerville edition hath a good and even glorious performance. It is pleasant (and of course profitable) to turnover the pages of these lovely tomes...." BRUNET Vol.I, pt1. "Tres-belle edition des oeuvres de cet ecrivain celebre:" Considered "the most beautiful edition of Addison ever published." HASKELL 17. Worming to outer margin of first few leaves in Vol. IV. Raised bands, spine panels richly gilt in floret motifs, red and black spine labels lettered in gilt.
