London: Macmillan, 1929. Gilt title and monogram on blue leather boards (Macmillan Luxury Edition) which have fading to spine and wear to corner tips. Internally there is a decorative coloured bookplate to front endpaper else very clean, tight and unmarked. 319 pages. Silk page marker bound in. Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole (1884-1941) was a prolific author of various genres and this, his first novel, was first published in 1909. It is the story of the Trojans, a family which believed that they were the people for whom the world was created. But when Harry Trojan came home after twenty years in New Zealand, with the democracy learned by working his hands, he was the 'wooden horse' who boldly carried into the 'Trojan' walls a lot of ideas that were completely alien to the family. 155. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
