The first edition, first impression of this work by historian Arthur Llewellyn Basham, in a full morocco binding.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and eighty-nine photographic plates, alongside further vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.The author presents 'A Survey of the Culture of the Indian Sub-Continent Before the Coming of the Muslims'.Basham's work was aimed at a western audience, and presented an attempt to correct the negative stereotypes of India created by previous historians such as Thomas Babington Macaulay. In a full morocco binding, with gilt detailing to spine. Externally, fine. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Offsetting from a removed bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good Indeed

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
