About This Item

London: Macdonald, 1988. A Very Good+ clean, tight and unmarked copy which has usual age darkening to page edges with dustjacket which is not price clipped. First UK edition. Map of Parc National Des Volcans, Rwanda to front endpaper and schematic of Karisoke Research Center to rear endpaper. 31 illustrations. Deep in the mist shrouded Virunga volcano country of Central Africa live some of the rarest, most intriguing animals on earth: the mountain gorillas. Handpicked by the eminent anthropologist Louis Leakey to head a long term study of the primates, Dian Fossey came to Africa in 1966 in search of the great, dark, luminous-eyed apes, and gained their trust, becoming their champion. She was sadly murdered in 1985, and the author has created a full portrait of the passionate naturalist based on Fossey's correspondence, intimate journals and interviews. **** NOT EX LIB **** 21. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
