About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1962. First edition, first printing. Published by Jonathan Cape in London, 1962. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, illustrated by Pat Marriott, is lightly rubbed at the extremities though highly presentable. The corners are slightly nicked and there is a small mark to the top of the rear panel. It has been neatly price clipped but retains the original 12s. 6d. net price. The original publishers black boards are brightly foiled in silver at the spine. The text blocks are bright and white throughout and the internals are equally so. It is free from inscriptions. This is a very near fine copy. The author's second novel, and a classic of children's fiction.

Synopsis

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is a children's novel by Joan Aiken, first published in 1963. Set in an alternate history of England, it tells of the adventures of cousins Bonnie and Sylvia and their friend Simon the goose-boy as they thwart the evil schemes of their governess Miss Slighcarp. The novel is the first in the "Wolves" Saga, a series of books set during the fictional 19th century reign of King James III.
