About This Item
New York: G.P. Putnam & CO, 1855. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Two fetching black-and-white engravings at frontis, separated by tissue guard, "The Contented Man" and "The Cow-Boys." A B.A.L. entry (10188) and two different notes by prior owners, both professional antiquarian book sellers note that this is a First Edition, with the title page saying 1855, and the copyright page saying 1854, penned by Washington Irving (1783-1859), bound handsomely in the original publisher's hunter-green boards, blind-stamped ornately with flourishes and with a lovely gilt device to front cover of a bucolic landscape. Rubbed gilt lettering to spine. Bumping to spine head and foot. Wolfert's Roost is the longest piece, but also "The Birds of Spring," "The Creole Village," "Mountjoy," "The Bermudas," "The Widow's Ordeal," "The Knight of Malta," and many more. Else and withal, a lovely Washington Irving title. [7], 8-383 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
