"O, who can tell the hidden power of herbes, and might of magic spell?" Spenser The Faerie Queene
"No ear hath heard, no tongue can tell The virtues of the Pimpernel."
For anyone interested in herbal lore, magic, witchcraft, and the occult use of plants, this is one of the best books ever compiled. It contains a large amount of history and uses as well as a section for creating potions and even info on how to see the fairies. There certainly is no other book like this out there. It contains gorgeous woodcut artwork, all of which is in pristine condition. A real hardcover that has been exceptionally cared for.
This book pulls from the ancient and magical herbs and plants the witches have used for various purposes.
"A well-stocked garden is a must for any witch, for the strength of her magic potions depends upon the skillful use of the right plants or trees. Most of us know of the special properties of one or two, such as hemlock; the author, who has lectured on the folklore of plant life for many years, tells us here, in a lively and entertaining style, about a vast number of plants and trees and the legends and superstitions surrounding them. Magic, witchcraft, astrology, primitive medicine, ancient traditions still surviving at various festivals - all are discussed in this fascinating book on the plant life of our gardens, fields, and woods".
Dorothy Jacob was a prolific writer of herbal and witchcraft books.
The condition of this book is very good despite being over half a century in the making. It has some normal age, shelf wear, and reading use. The interior pages are naturally age toned and can contain a small little spot here or there. The jacket is very good but has some small scratches. The book overall is very nice with some regular age and handling use. Id say for its age its in very nice condition.
