Daisaku Ikeda (born 1928) is the founder and current president of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) , the international offshoot of Soka Gakkai, a Japanese new religious movement informed by the teachings of Nichiren which has more than 12 million members. The Lotus Sutra is one of the most popular and influential Mahayana sutras, and the basis on which the Tientai and Nichiren schools of Buddhism were established. This sutra is known for its extensive instruction on the concept and usage of skillful means – (Sanskrit: upaya, Japanese: hoben) , the seventh paramita or perfection of a Bodhisattva – mostly in the form of parables. It is also one of the first sutras to use the term Mahayana, or "Great Vehicle". This discussion among Ikeda, and Katsuji Saito, Takanori Endo, and Haruo Suda examines Former Affairs of the Bodhisattva Medicine King, The Bodhisattva Wonderful Sound, The Universal Gateway of the Bodhisattva Perceiver of the World's Sounds, Dharani, Former Affairs of the Wonderful King of Adornment, Encouragements of the Boddhisattva Universal Worthy; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; vii, 294 pages .
