London: Macmillan, 1928 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good. 8" by 6". None. The first edition of Thomas Hardy's posthumously published final volume of poetry, in the original dust wrapper. The first edition of this work from the major literary figure, published in the year of his death.In the publisher's original dust wrapper, price unclipped.A short note printed above the introduction, states 'this volume, though prepared for the press, would have undergone further revisions, had the author lived to issue it', with Hardy acknowledging his own mortality with this work 'being probably my last appearance on the literary stage'.The final poem in the collection is titled 'He Resolves to Say No More'. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with bumping to spine head and tail and a touch of fading to back strip. Light spotting to fore edge of text block. Discolouration to dust wrapper back strip, with small losses to back strip head and tail. Significant closed tear over front joint, with tape reinforcements to reverse of dust wrapper. Light edgewear to dust wrapper head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good Indeed
