A unique and likely pre-publication undated copy of this beautiful travel work by Arthur de Capell Brooke, in which he explores the wonders of Lapland and Sweden during the winter, complete with illustrations. Undated. There are no reprints so this is either a proof copy or pre publication copy. Illustrated with a lithograph frontispiece, one folding map, five lithographs, sixteen plates, one lithograph vignettes, and seven vignettes.One page of adverts to the rear.Collated, complete.'A Winter in Lapland and Sweden' beautifully describes the author's experiences travelling across the wintery landscapes of Lapland and Sweden. With vivid descriptions of the scenery and the people of the countries, with notes on how the author spent his time, and how the locals celebrate Christmas day.Including the author's observations made whilst residing in Hammerfest, a town in the Troms og Finmark county of Norway. Hammerfest is the northernmost town in Norway, with the midnight sun lasting from 15th May to the 31st July, and polar night from 23rd November to the 19th January.By Arthur de Capell Brooke, a Fellow of the Royal Society and co-establisher of the Raleigh Club, who is also known for writing this work 'Travels through Sweden, Norway, and Finmark to the North Cape, in the Summer of 1820' and 'Winter Sketches in Lapland'. Rebound in a cloth binding with new endpapers. Externally, smart. Some fading to the spine and extremities. Light marks to the boards and spine. A little rubbing to the spine label. Light bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots, spots heavier to the first and last few pages. Pages unopened to the top edge. Small chips to the folds of the folding map, as is usual, with some small reinforcements to the reverse. Very Good
