About This Item
New York: Harper's Weekly, 1873. Very good overall. Three wood engravings by American masters, including a full page engraving entitled "Gloucester Harbor" by Winslow Homer, depicting two rowboats full of boys on a lazy summer day, with many sailing vessels in the distance (p844), in this complete issue.
Accompanied by a double spread wood engraving by Arthur Lumley, entitled "Taking the Reins - A Familiar Scene in Central Park", showing two young girls in a goat drawn carriage in the Park, with a small girl with hoop reaching out to feed the animals, and a tall elegantly dressed black coachman at the right (pp848 - 849); and a half page wood engraving by Frederic Church entitled, "Amateur Naturalists" showing a mother and 2 young women collecting butterflies in a country meadow.
Published in Harper's Weekly, a long running American newspaper well-known for its woodcut illustrations. Illustrations signed in the image. Folio, pp 841 - 856. 11 1/2 x 16 1/2", a few closed tears, some ruffling at right foredge, the woodcuts bright and clean.
