The slashing attacks introduced by the move Bc4 in the Sicilian were a trademark of Bobby Fischer at his best. White's plan is simple: root out the black king and play for mate. This vintage weapon formed the spearhead of Nigel Short's valiant challenge for the World title. Under the onslaught, Garry Kasparov's trusty Najdorf looked increasingly battle-weary as the Englishman punched hole after hole in the Russian's defences, and king-hunt followed king-hunt.
