A fine set of true first editons of this hugely popular trilogy. There is some confusion about a probable trial issue dustwrapper for the first title, with no advance praise notices on the lower panel and lacking the blue capital letter 'A' at the start of the blurb inside the front flap. This wrapper was not officially issued with the published book. The first edition wrapper, as issued on day of publication, has the price of $21.00 on the inner front flap and the number code '5/92' at the bottom of the inner rear flap. The wrapper on All the Pretty horses in this set has both of these points.

(7.7 x 5.4 inches). 336pp. No publisher on title page, just the date year printed on the verso and a stuck in paper label of Caves Book Co. on rear blank free endpaper. The title page has the title, author name and blurb 'at this point, it looked like curtains for james bond; he was skimping on his work, gambling, wenching, and on the edge of becoming a security risk' (sic). Blue cloth binding with silver lettering to the spine. Publishers sewn-in blue silk bookmark. The dustwrapper is printed in blue to the front panel, showing Bond holding his gun, between lettering and a target design. Spine lettered in blue. No other printing to the wrapper. ----- A rare curiosity.

Illustrated with 8 beautiful full page colour plates, each with a printed tissue guard, 104 line drawings throughout the text, plus illustrated endpapers at the front and back, all by Charles Robinson. Small bookseller label to the bottom of the front free endpaper. A fine and spotless copy of the book in publishers dark green cloth binding with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and spine. In the rare original illustrated dustwrapper, printed in red and green on beige paper. The red ink on the spine is faded and there are a couple of very small chips but overall this is a very smart example of the wrapper on a truly fine book. This first American edition uses sheets from the English edition, prnited by Ballantyne and Company in London. An uncommon survivor in such lovely condition.

One gathering slightly sprung. Publishers dark green cloth with gilt and black decorative band across the top of the front board and the top and bottom of the spine. Black decorative roll to the bottom of the front board. Title on gilt to the middle of the front board. Spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Rear board with blind stamped floral roll to the top and bottom. Floral decorative endpapers. Neat two line inscription to the front free endpaper. The rear endpapers have an early previous owner's name and address written in red crayon to the free endpaper and a few short lines to the pastedown. Full colour illustrated frontispiece mounted onto grey art paper and with a tissue guard, decorative mono title page and twelve full page mono plates by Bedford. Internally this is a very good, bright and clean copy, in an attractive early half leather binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, of London, for E. P. Dutton & Company, New York. Half dark green calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments fully decorated and ruled in gilt. Twin burgundy labels, ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Off white silk bookmark.
