New York: Reynal & Hitchcock, 1939. French poet and aviator Antoine de Saint Exupery (1900-1944) wrote "The Little Prince," one of the most loved children's books of the 20th Century. This memoir of life as a mail pilot won the National Book Award for non-fiction in 1939. He died in North Africa while serving in the Free French Air Force. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First American edition. Translation from the French by Lewis Galantiere; decorations by John O'H. Cosgrave II. Blue patterned cloth binding with a black spine; gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. Illustrated endpapers. Clean text; 306 pages,very fresh and bright. First endpaper has been clipped and there is a previous-owner signature on the following one. Mildly bumped and a bit of rubbing at the foot of the spine. A solid copy of this modern classic. Lacking the dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector.. First American Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. Illus. by John O'H. Cosgrave II. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
