About This Item

Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1964. Hardcover. 8vo. Black and green cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 331pp. Illustrations. Very good/very good. Minor jacket edgewear and age toning, with spine a bit sunned. Early (not first) printing, tight and nice, of the popular memoir by the beloved and prolific Irish-American character actor (1899-1983) -- and signed inscribed and signed boldly by him in blue ballpoint on the front flyleaf: "To / Ben / Good Luck / Pat O'Brien / 11/28/64." In addition, this copy has been extra-illustrated with a unique frontispiece, for on the blank leaf facing the title page is affixed a choice, heavy stock 5" X 7" black-and-white head-and-shoulders vintage photograph of a smiling young O'Brien in suit and tie (bearing facsimile white "Sincerely / Pat O'Brien" in a dark area at lower right). A fine early portrait, undated but circa 1940.
