About This Item

Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1976. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. EGGLESTON, WILLIAM. William Eggleston's Guide, New York: Museum of Modern Art, 1976. Square octavo, first edition, pp. 112, brown pebble-grain leatherette boards with gilt lettering on top and spine, mounted color photo on top. Essay by John Szarkowski. This was the catalog for Eggleston's controversial show at the Museum of Modern Art, which was panned by many critics for its use of color. Considered a breakthrough in photographic art, see Roth pp. 234-5, Parr & Badger v.1 p. 265. They wrote that this show and book 'heralded the birth of colour photography, or more accurately, it marked the moment when it was perceived as artistically respectable.' They add that Szarkowski's essay here is one of his most adroit. Condition of this book: Minor spine slant, age toning at edges. Boards near fine with a few faint areas of rubbing at extremities. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 112. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Photography; United States; 1970s; Art & Design. ISBN: 087070317X. ISBN/EAN: 9780870703171.
