Large Folio(10 X 13") volumes in custom slipcases with Pictorial art fronts. All 14 volumes are in VG+ to fine condition with no internal markings other than the previous owner's name neatly penned inside only the Texas Volumes 1 & 2 on the ffep. Slipcases are all in VG state with some scuffing to the artwork The Index was acquired separately and is a VG ex-library copy with the customary artifacts and does not have a slipcover. The index boards show some shelf-wear. Volumes 3, 4, 5, 6, and Index are all 1st edition 1st state. Volume 1 is 1st edition 3rd printing with revisions and Volume 2 is 1st edition 3rd printing w/revisions. Due to the size and weight of this set, additional postage will be required to ship outside the USA. A remarkable set that has seen very little use. Please contact us if you have further questions.

Titlepage of first volume is damp marked and the following three leaves of dedication and the last 8 leaves marginally so. The last two leaves also slightly browned but all paper supple and strong. There is sporadic & pale marking with volume 2 having a marginal ink spot to pp311 sl.offset to 310 and marginal damp to approx 10 leaves + the index. The Thiry-Eight plates, a complete work in itself with separate title page, but prepared to link with the Letters, is 72 pp with 38 beautiful hand coloured plates by Nodder. The binding is in very good condition with a little scuffing to the spine. The contents are generally in very good condition with nice clean text pages. The plates are clean and brightly coloured. There is a small stain which affects the bottom left hand corner of plates 36-8, not affecting images.

Octavo, pp xii, 310, illustrated (including two chromolithographs by Keulemans), a rather poor copy, lacking the folding map, an ex-Boots library copy in red library cloth, a bit used and weak internally with cracked hinges (through front and rear hinges tight and strong), some plates a little frayed, a small stamp on the front endpaper and a library label on the rear, the cloth rather worn, marked on the upper cover, the spine torn. A useful working copy. [Andre was an explorer and collector of natural history specimens . He wrote a glossary of common and scientific names of plants and animals and put together a collection of 1800 bird skins which are held at Tring. He was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a Fellow of the Zoological Society. He travelled largely in Venezuala and Columbia and introduced the Anthurium plant to Trinidad & Tobago, 1915.]. Signed by Author. First English edition. Cloth. Fair.
