Los Angeles: Wilderness Press/Ward Ritchie Press, 1970. Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) is acknowledged as one of the finest American artists of the XXth Century; an incredible draftsman, he was particularly noted for his graphic illustrations. This is a reissue of his first book, originally published in 1920. First Edition Thus, "Including extensive hitherto unpublished passages from the original journal," in a beautiful fine press edition designed by Ward Ritchie. Includes Kent's Prefaces from the previous printings. LIMITED to 1550 copies, this is #1462; however, this copy has not been signed, as the limitation page indicates it should be. [Quercus has seen another copy in the same situation, and speculates that perhaps Kent, who died the following year, had not signed all copies.] Fine condition, with beautiful illustrations on heavy laid paper; a joy to behold and handle. In a heavy slipcase which has a small bump to one edge, else Fine. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Limited/Numbered.. Hard Cover. Fine/Near Fine.
