London: SPCK. 1853. 1st ed., folio, original cloth boards with gilt lettering and blindstamped decoration, pp i, ii, 96. 192 b&w illustrations, two to each page (printed recto only), with accompanying text. Includes all 96 plates called for. Professionally restored, with original cloth spine relaid over new cloth, and original boards. Gift inscription front free endpaper, dated 1858. Very good condition, Anne Pratt (1806-1893) was one of the best known botanical illustrators of the Victorian age. The sheets of "Wild Flowers" were issued in plain and handcoloured versions: this is the plain, with beautifully detailed engraved black and white botanical illustrations. The descriptive text includes many details such as the distribution and uses of each plant. 1st Edition. Boards.
