NY: Greenwillow Press. A pregnant sow flees a farm on which she lives, going into the forest to have her piglets. She meets a snake and the two creatures are at first cautious of each other but a friendship blossoms and the snake helps the pig to have her babies and to protect her from what the farmer has planned for her and the little ones. Beautiful tale with equally attractive b&w drawings by Harris. This copy was previously owned by author/editor Elizabeth Shub. The very bottom edge of the cover has some sunning, the dust jacket has a slightly sunned spine. Overall, quite nice. INSCRIBED TO LIBBY SHUB: "FOR LIBBY, WITH WHOM FIVE MINUTES IS WORTH TEN YEARS OF WRITING SCHOOL- WITH LOVE AND THANKS- JOHN." OUT OF PRINT. . About Fine. Hardcover. First Edition. 1982.
