About This Item

London: W.H. Allen, 1965. A near Fine unmarked copy (Fine apart from age toning to endpapers) with near Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. First British edition. 192 pages. A professional writer of dirty books includes in one of his epics an imaginary character called Bibbsy Dibbs. There exists, unbelievably, a real Barbara (Bibbsy) Dibbs, who fits the description of her fictional namesake.. The girl's father, a retired naval commander, institutes proceedings for libel. The book is in the form of a series of lunatic letters, the most amusing being between the writer and his publisher. The commander might well be one of Henry Cecil's vexatious litigants; and the pornographer reminds one irresistibly of Groucho Marx at his most insulting. This is not a dirty book - but an excruciatingly funny one. B2E. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
