New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1970. First Edition. Cloth. Near fine/near fine. First edition of A White House Diary, signed by Lady Bird Johnson, Luci Baines Johnson, her husband Patrick J. Nugent and press secretary Liz Carpenter.. Octavo, ix, [1], 806pp. Green cloth over white, title in gilt on spine. Stated "first edition" on copyright page. In publishers first edition dust jacket, near fine, with $10.95 on front flap and "1170" at bottom, closed tear along top edge of spine, otherwise an exceptional dust jacket. Signed on bookplate affixed to front free end paper and inscribed to reporter Robert E. Davis of the Texian Press and his wife. Includes the press pass for access to the signing event. A unique collection of signatories. Liz Carpenter served as the press secretary for Lady Bird Johnson from 1963-1969. She is remembered for crafting the remarks that President Johnson spoke to the nation upon returning to Washington with the body of President Kennedy in 1963: "This is a sad time for all people. We have suffered a loss that cannot be weighed. For me, it is a deep personal tragedy. I know that the world shares the sorrow that Mrs. Kennedy and her family bear. I will do my best. That is all I can do. I ask for your help and God's.
