About This Item

Minton, Balch and Company, 1924-01-01. Hardcover. Acceptable/Missing. Minton, Balch and Company, 1924. Hardcover, 298 pp. First Edition. In acceptable+ condition/ NO dust jacket. Black cloth covered boards with gold illustration of saber and cossack hat on front and gold lettering on spine. Covers have a bit of nicking and fraying to cloth at and around edges and moderate overall scuffing, fading and soiling with virtually all of the lettering on spine rubbed off. Spine has a few thin cracks throughout but binding is still intact. Pages lightly aged but otherwise unmarked. Missing dust jacket. NOT Ex-Library. A solid reading copy. The purportedly true adventures of a Cossack officer during the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the subsequent struggles between the Bolsheviks and the White forces in the Crimea. The identity of the officer is withheld, but he is presented as being rich, noble and so zealous in his opposition to the Bolsheviks that he was called "the White Devil." His daring exploits include a plot to assassinate Lenin and Trotsky, multiple arrests, killings and daring escapes, and execution by a grossly incompetent firing squad.
