Barbara Gowdy, CM is a Canadian novelist and short story writer. She has written seven novels and won several major awards. For The Romantic, Gowdy has also been longlisted for The Man Booker Prize. "The White Bone" is a novel imagined entirely from the perspective of African elephants. It has recently been selected by Margaret Atwood for the Globe Book Club's first title.
