About This Item
New York: Macmillan Publishing Company, 1978. First Thus. Octavo, original purple cloth over lavender boards, original dust jacket. Upper right corner bumped. About-fine.
"AS MY WHIMSICAL LORD TAKES ME"
First Macmillan edition of these "simple, powerful reflections on the human condition in the scientific age," a splendid introduction to the mind of Dorothy L. Sayers. A jack-of-all-trades with the pen, Sayers produced a steady output of drama, poetry, essays, crime novels, and, of course, her studies and translation of Dante. But, as a committed Anglican, her lasting contribution among these efforts may well have been the value of her Christian perspective. Originally published in 1969 as "Christian Letters to a Post-Christian World," this title was part of the Macmillan series that also reprinted collections of C. S. Lewis, J. B. Phillips and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. With a Foreword by William Griffin of Macmillan: "If there was one word to describe Sayers' view of Christianity, it would be 'whimsy.'" Dust jacket design by Richard Nebiolo. A lovely copy.
