Original publisher's blue printed paper wrappers with Yapp edges, titles to front cover in black, some creasing to wrappers.. 8vo. (207 x 148 mm).. Leaf with title and Tolstoy's text with large 11-line initial in red in English in red and black throughout, final leaf with colophon with Ashendene press mark recto; printed text in Fell English type. The scarce Christmas Ashendene translation of Tolstoy. From the edition limited to c.200 copies on paper. Printed at Essex House, Chelsea (see colophon), 'Where God Is Love Is', was issued 'With All Good Wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from St. John and Cecily Hornby' 'for their friends whom God preserve this Christmastide'. Also included, inserted loose, is a letter with envelope from Hornby to a 'Miss Crane' on a single sheet of paper with his letterhead ('From C. H. St J. Hornby, Shelley House, Chelsea Embankment &.') and dated '19 April 1926'. Hornby invites miss Crane to 'come here and see my Press on Thursday next Aprill 22. at 5 o'clock', he also proposes some other dates fitting with his travels. Finally he concludes by giving directions: 'This house is on the river front, but the door is just on the corner of Embankment Gardens - (nearest tube Station Sloane Square.)'.
