Hardcover. 390p. + [5] backlist, color frontispiece and six b&w plates, non-authorial gift inscription dated Nov. 1914, mild wear else very good first edition, first printing in green cloth boards decorated with floral design and gilt and a color plate on front cover. Fantasies, fairies, dreams. Gale was a suffragist, activist & liberal Democrat who fought for equal rights for women and people of color. She was a founding member of the Lucy Stone League and spent most of her writing life in her home town of Portage, WI. She was also the first woman to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her adaptation of her award-winning novel "Miss Lulu Bett" which was filmed by deMille in 1921.
