London: Heinemann, 1953. First Thus. Hardcover. Near Fine/very good. Lightest shelf wear to the book; more totips, corners, and edges of the jacket which is chipped at the spine tips, front flap creased. Previous owner's inscription which is that of a noted Powell authority. First printing of this edition. First published by Cassell & Co. in 1939, (most copies being lost early in the war) this was Powell's last work of fiction before WWII, after which he began work on the twelve volume Dance to the Music of Time. It is generally regarded as his most amusing. This first Heinemann edition is in the simple red and white jacket. Heinemann first published this new edition in 1953 in an edition of 3,00 copies after the publication of the first two volumes in the Dance. Lilley A.6 (b) 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Hard Cover.
